Ellen DeGeneres describes having coronavirus when she returns to show

Ellen DeGeneres detailed her experience with covid after a positive test for the potentially deadly virus before Christmas, when she was forced to cancel her program.

The 62-year-old TV presenter returned for her first New Year’s program this week and told viewers that she slept 16 hours a day and had extreme back pain.

Ellen insisted that she is ‘all right now’ and thanked the fans for their support and kind messages while she was battling the disease.

Discussing her situation, Ellen said, ‘There is a lot of negativity going on, so I thought about talking about something positive, my greedy test. I tested positive before the holidays, I’m fine now.

‘I want to thank everyone who sent kind words of support. I wish I could have embraced you all, but that would be dangerous and illegal. ‘

Ellen then addressed the audience, who should have attended her 12-day giveaway special before the cancellation, and said, ‘Thanks to the audience that came back, you were supposed to be in the audience in December, but we had to cancel. ‘

She revealed that it was just before her show was due to the film that she discovered it was positive for coronavirus, adding: ‘I was getting ready for the show you were supposed to be on, my extensions put on and my face covered in dust.

– And my assistant Craig came in and said you tested positive for coronavirus. Then everyone around me fled. People are really scared and run, some never came back. I left immediately and everyone was informed. ‘

Ellen went on to discuss her ordeal when she returned home, where she lives with his wife for 12 years, Portia de Rossi.

She joked: ‘Portia made me sleep in a different room in a different bed, because she wanted the raised bed in the car just for her.

‘So for the first three days, I slept 16 hours a day, then on the fourth day I woke up with spasms in my back, so I thought I had strained a muscle or slept strangely.

‘But it persisted, so the doctor prescribed painkillers and muscle relaxants – jackpot! Finally, this thing is paying off.

‘The painkillers didn’t help, it felt like I had a broken rib. So, they put me in a steroid pack, but they make you very quick and nervous.

‘So I went on with all of that, painkillers, muscle relaxants and steroids – I’m not sure if that’s the best way, I’m not a doctor.’

– I’m still using them, I find the relaxants useful. I talked to my brother and told him about the back pain, he had a friend with her at the time and then I talked to several other people. So now, apparently, back pain is a symptom of greed. Now you know! It’s the only symptom I have.

‘I started to feel better, so I’m very happy and feeling good now. I don’t know how I did it, I use a mask and wash my hands and only licked three doorknobs.

‘For people who are struggling with the disease now, my heart is with them.’

Ellen used social media to announce that she was the victim of a highly contagious virus that swept the world in the past ten months.

‘Hello everyone, I want everyone to know that I tested positive for Covid-19. Fortunately, I’m feeling good now, ‘she wrote in a statement posted on Twitter.

“Anyone who has been in close contact with me has been notified and I am following all appropriate CDC guidelines,” she added. – I’ll see you again after the holidays. Please stay safe and healthy. ‘

Although Ellen usually records episodes of The Ellen Show at least a day in advance, the last episode before Christmas was a reissue of an episode that was first aired on October 15.

This meant the cancellation of the last day of his well-known holiday promotional series, 12 days of free gifts, which usually attracts big sponsors and high ratings.

Last year, the promotion took place at the end of the season, and she interrupted the holiday after airing on December 23.

This year, the program is giving its daily gifts to frontline workers, first responders, medical professionals and families most affected by the pandemic.

The presenter’s coronavirus diagnosis came just a day after a scathing Buzzfeed News article claimed that she was struggling to attract sponsors and guests on the A list for this year’s series of freebies – statements that were strongly contested by Ellen’s team.

A current employee of The Ellen Show told the media that the freebie segments in the program had failed in the wake of reports on the ‘toxic’ culture of the program’s workplace.

‘In a typical year, 12 days of free gifts is huge. Basically, we claim Christmas on TV during the day. When you think of Christmas on TV, you think of The Ellen Show, ‘said the official.

‘Everyone wants to be in the audience. Everyone wants the presents. And then we line up all these crazy sponsors, and people love it. But this year, our ’12 days’ are more condensed. We don’t have that many sponsors. ‘

However, a source close to the program vehemently contested the claims as inaccurate, telling DailyMail.com that the typical format, which generally focuses on luxury travel and vacations, had to be radically changed due to the realities of the pandemic.

Season 18 guests on the show included Matthew McConaughey, Justin Bieber, Jane Fonda, Chance the Rapper, Kristen Bell and Orlando Bloom, among others.

Many cameos were made through a video link due to the pandemic, but some were also made in the studio.

The Buzzfeed article also cited a source close to the program that defended the Christmas promotion, saying that holiday gifts were out of the question in the pandemic.

“There are travel restrictions and she is giving gifts that are appropriate for the world right now,” said the source.

“Maybe it looks and looks different, but this is not a reflection of it or the company, but it is directly impacted by the state of the world and the type of show that is being done now.”
