Dyeing my cinnamon hair with gold made me feel like a new person
Regina Harris, the star of this week’s episode of Hair Me Out, is on a lifelong journey with her natural hair. As she grew up, she received routine permanents or relaxing treatments; in the summer, his mother gave him braids as a style of protection. Now, becoming a woman in her 20s, Harris wants to be the author of her own hair story, so she decides to dye her natural curls for the first time. For her transformation, Harris visits the Spoke & Weal Salon in Manhattan’s Flatiron district, where she makes a reservation with colorist and natural hair specialist Alexandra Hiers and asks for her interpretation of “cinnamon hair color”. “I want to have cinnamon hair, mainly because I saw it in August and I really wanted to do it,” says Harris before his appointment, noting that the choice was not as simple as it may seem. “I face the stigma of, ‘With your skin tone, you can’t dye your hair a certain color,'” Harris continues, “but as I’m getting older, I’m really getting into my own femininity and not really care – I will do what I want with my hair. Today I’m obviously a little nervous, but I know that Alex is going to run away; she does an amazing job, so I’m super excited. ”Hiers is more than qualified to take on this transformation. “I specialize in colors and work with all hair textures, but my favorite is curly hair,” she explains about her experience in natural hair, adding that she has a clear view of Harris’ color. “Today, with Regina, we are going to transform her naturally textured hair into a golden cinnamon brown. We want to make sure that we keep your skin, so that it doesn’t look too hot or gray. We want her to come out looking like a goddess. “First, to ensure that the bleach solution does not stretch or damage Harris’ spirals, Hiers begins by saturating her hair with a heat shield (she uses Aveda Heat Relief). She then paints the dye mixed to measure from root to tip and let it process under a lid for about 45 minutes. Once the cinnamon color has set, the Hiers shampoos condition, hit the hair with a hairdryer and then press it with a flat iron for the big reveal In the end, Harris is ecstatic with his new look. “I feel so good – I’m very happy with the color,” she says. “It suits my skin tone perfectly; I feel like a new woman, like, Who is she? I feel that way next year, I’ll feel like a new person, and now I can see that I’m a new person.
