Elizabeth Olsen in When She Gets to See Marvel Scripts

It also explains what it means for the MCU to be in “first position”.

We share some clips from Elizabeth olsenepisode of Collider Ladies Night that focuses on your experience of doing WandaVision, but how about stepping back a little and getting a sense of what it’s really like to enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Olsen made his first appearance as Wanda Maximoff on the intermediate credits scene for Captain America: The Winter Solider, but his first significant contribution to the MCU was in Avengers: Age of Ultron. After that, he went to Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and now, the first series of the MCU, WandaVision. So, what exactly happens when you are planning a course through one of the biggest film franchises out there? Do you know your script right away or is it just a matter of sitting and waiting until you call? Here’s how Olsen described it:

“Ultron, I remember this being very specific. We had to shoot in Italy and then I had some free time and that’s when I think I pressed for Godzilla, and then I pressed for Godzilla ended up in London and then I had to move to London. And then I remember having a little free time between the end of the film in London. But yes, for Age of Ultron I was in London for five months and I definitely didn’t shoot everything, but I loved living in London, so I really didn’t care. ”

That means for five months Avengers: Age Ultron it was Olsen’s # 1 commitment, so if a conflicting opportunity arose, she couldn’t take it. And, of course, that ended up happening. Olsen explained:

“During that time, it was a job that I would have loved to have done, but they needed me there for the entire six weeks of that other job, and it’s the first job. They pay for their time and then, for me, just think that they pay for their time. They pay for their time to do the press. It’s not just the real days on the set and because I’m so happy to be working for them, it doesn’t seem like it’s taking anything away from me. Marvel is a really lovely company to work for. I don’t think any of us can complain about how they treat us. ”

So that’s what it’s like to be part of the MCU’s production schedule, but what about the material itself? When you are part of a joint film like Avengers films, did you receive the full script or just its parts? Here’s what Olsen had to say about his own experience:

‘Well, I don’t think I ever had one’Endgame ‘ script. I think I just showed up on the set and thought, ‘What’s the battle predicted?’ [Laughs] Do you know? And then I think I have a few pages for the end of the film. I only got my share of the Infinity War, which looked like half the movie, the things that affected me. So, I had no idea what was going on with everyone. It was kind of explained. And then with ‘WandaVision, ‘we had all the scripts before we started to be tangible, and it was great to be able to trace their course. But yes, there is a lot of secrecy. But they give you as much as you need. Like, I don’t think I need everything [Infinity War]. Everything else didn’t really matter what I needed to know what to do for. ”
