If you are not up to date with the two most recent episodes of WandaVision, consider this a spoiler warning.
We are just one day from the end of WandaVision, so it is a good time to look back and to a simpler time. A time when MCU / Disney + series WandaVision it was a cute sitcom pastiche with fun costumes and guest stars of the genre, not a painful journey through pain and trauma – not to mention a return to the months of waiting for the next chapter in the mega-narrative Marvel Cinematic Universe. (Yea, Hawk and Winter Soldier starts at Disney + in a few weeks, but Wanda’s story will resume in Strange doctor in the madness multiverse Next year.)
Elizabeth Olsen, who plays Wanda at the MCU, joined Jimmy Fallon via Zoom on Wednesday night for a journey through several decades of The Tonight Show, complete with retrospective title sequences, gorgeous (Olsen) and terrible (Fallon) hairstyles and, of course, smoking.
Of course, the stars didn’t do interviews with Zoom at that time – so a 70’s Olsen with an air of Farrah and a little bit of enthusiasm starts to wonder why they are “in these boxes”. In the 90s, she is singing Fallon’s fake laugh track, reminding him that he doesn’t even have an audience. Is this journey through the dawn story fueled by your pandemic-era despair to get back to normal? Maybe – but if you followed WandaVision, you will know that there is always a more sinister force at work behind the scenes.
If the program itself did not sell the Emmy value of Olsen’s immersion in the comic book styles of previous decades, consider this extra proof that She Has The Range and would have been a star at any time. And if you only managed to get “Agatha All Along” out of his head … well, sorry.
(Olsen noted in the actual interview with Fallon that, as she is currently in London, filming Doctor Strange 2, she had Wanda’s hair and makeup team with her to help her with her looks in this part – and confessed that as she couldn’t venture into London closed to save a costume, she’s wearing a dish towel as a top tub in the ’70s segment. Now That is chaos magic.)
