Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolf pays tribute to the late rocker on what would have been his 66th birthday

Wolf Van Halen wrote a moving tribute to his late father, Eddie, to celebrate what would have been the rocker’s 66th birthday on Tuesday.

“Happy 66th birthday, pop,” Wolf prefaced the sincere tweet. “I wish I could give you the biggest hug and celebrate with you. I love you and I miss you so much it hurts. I don’t even know how to put it into words.”

“I have been doing my best to stay strong, but it is very difficult to be here without you,” Wolf, 29, continued.

Wolf then went on with a second tweet who said: “Not a second has passed without you thinking, and today will be no different.”

“I love and miss you beyond words, Pop ❤”, concluded Wolf.

The two tweets were accompanied by candid home videos from 1994. The first video shows Eddie capturing Lobo in a fun way in his oversized shirt, while the second video features “Wolfie and Dad” on Christmas Eve.

Eddie Van Halen, best known for his innovative tapping, virtuosic guitar technique and his impeccable fragmentation at Van Halen, died at the age of 65 in October.

Van Halen told Billboard magazine in 2015 that he had a third of his tongue removed due to a cancer that also spread to the esophagus.

“I used metal picks – they are made of brass and copper – which I always held in my mouth, in the exact place where I had tongue cancer,” he said at the time. “Also, I basically live in a recording studio that is full of electromagnetic energy. That’s a theory. I mean, I was smoking and taking a lot of drugs and a lot of everything. But at the same time, my lungs are totally clean. This is just my own theory, but doctors say it’s possible. “
