Eddie Murphy told his side of the “totally and absolutely accurate” side of his hilarious basketball game with Prince – and it’s still just as funny as when his brother Charlie Murphy explained it on Dave Chappelle’s sketch comedy show. However, he admits that there are some inconsistencies in the original story.
Murphy made an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s talk show as he promoted his next film Coming 2 America before the film’s debut on Amazon Prime, where he opened up about the crazy experience. While the original narrative said that he and his brothers were given some of Prince’s clothes to play with, Murphy says that he and his friends actually “wore club stuff” Prince allegedly wore the same outfit from his “Kiss” video, which included blouse.
“My brother was like, ‘Okay, it’s going to be shirts against blouses,'” he started. “The blouses won, they hit us,” he said, laughing along with the host. “We had a guy on our team, Larry, who could play and he didn’t have shoes, so Prince gave him some sneakers. And Prince wore two, three sizes smaller than Larry, but Larry was so excited to have Prince’s sneakers that he wore tiny sneakers and couldn’t get his game right, ”he said. “So we lost. The only guy who knew how to play, the prince’s shoes told him to stop. “
The comedian went on to fill the rest of the interview with impressions of some of the legends he knew in his career, as well as some of his favorite memories. Murphy commented on the time when he received bad advice from Rodney Dangerfield, sharing laughter with Richard Pryor, and the legends he knew and who immediately considered geniuses: Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney.
Eddie Murphy’s latest project serves as a sequel to the first Coming to America in which Prince Akeem (Murphy) returns to America in search of his long-lost son and heir to the throne of Zamunda. Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, Vanessa Bell Calloway and James Earl Jones return together with Murphy for the new installment, which was written by black creator Kenya Barrels. Wesley Snipes, Garcelle Beauvais and The old guard star Kiki Layne joined them in the cast. The film is scheduled to enter the streaming service on March 5.
