Just when it seemed that the Eagles were narrowing their focus to Josh McDaniels, another name was added to his extensive search for coaches.
The Eagles will interview Colts offensive coordinator Nick Sirianni on Tuesday for the position of head coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Sirianni, 39, has been the offensive coordinator in Indianapolis since 2018. He joined the Colts when former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich took over as coach in Indianapolis after McDaniels stepped down. Everything is connected!
Before Reich joined the Eagles in 2016, he was with the Chargers as his quarterback coach in 2013 and his offensive coordinator in 2014-15. Sirianni also worked for the Chargers. He was a quality control coach in 2013 and replaced Reich as a quarterback coach in 2014-15, working with him.
After Reich was fired in 2016 and joined the Eagles, Sirianni stayed with the Chargers and trained wide receivers for two years before meeting with Reich in Indianapolis in 2018.
Sirianni has spent years training Pro Bowlers Philip Rivers eight times, both at Chargers and now at Colts.
In the three seasons under Reich and Sirianni, the Colts are in eighth place in the NFL in points scored, averaging 25.9 points per game. And they have the 12th ranked attack, averaging 363.9 yards per game. The Colts went to the playoffs twice in three years.
Sirianni started his coaching career at his alma mater, Mount Union, in 2004. He trained defensive quarterbacks for two seasons before moving to IUP as a coach for receivers in 2006. In 2009, he was hired by the Chiefs as a control coach. of quality and during his four seasons in Kansas City he was also the assistant coach of QBs and coach of receivers.
Sirianni will be the eighth known candidate to interview for the post, after Joe Brady, Robert Saleh, Arthur Smith, Jerod Mayo, Duce Staley, McDaniels and Todd Bowles. The Eagles also asked to interview several others.
More than a week has passed since the Eagles fired Doug Pederson. When they went on their coach search, they were one of seven teams with main coach vacancies. They are one of only two remaining, along with the Texans.
