Dyson’s V15 Detect vacuum cleaner uses a green laser to illuminate dirty floors

Another year, another new Dyson vacuum cleaner. 2021 brings some of the biggest changes we’ve seen in a long time, however, which is why the company is jumping from V11 to V15. Most notably, the new V15 Detect packs a green laser to help you see how dirty your floors are.

Although many vacuum cleaners already use LEDs to help you see dirt on the floor, Dyson is trying to outdo everyone by including a much cooler sounding green laser (only available on the ‘Cute’ cleaning head for hard floors). The laser is precisely tilted 1.5 degrees and 7.2 mm above the ground to make the dust as visible as possible.

Why green, you ask? Dyson says it provides the best contrast. What I think makes sense; a white LED would be difficult to see on a light colored surface, but I have never seen anyone with a shiny green floor.

But it’s not just the light show that gives you a better idea of how clean your floors really are. The vacuum also includes a new piezoelectric acoustic sensor that tells you how much dust you are collecting. This sensor also allows the vacuum to increase the suction when it encounters a large amount of dust. As soon as the levels stabilize, the vacuum suction will return to normal.

Dyson even shows a division of the size and quantity of the dust on the vacuum cleaner’s LCD screen. This is not something I always thought I would like to know, but it is still very cool, considering how accurate the sensor claims to be; Dyson says the sensor can detect particles as small as 10 microns – the size of some bacteria.

In addition to informing you about how dirty your floors are with scientific precision, Dyson says that his new vacuum cleaner accessories probably solve the most annoying problem with vacuum cleaners: matted hair on the brush bar.

For its new mini motorized brush head – designed for cleaning furniture and the like – the company has developed a new tapered brush bar that is capable of curling hair and peeling it in the trash instead of allowing it to tangle and accumulate with time .

For his larger brush bar, Dyson is essentially using what amounts to a sophisticated hair comb to collect hair and prevent it from getting tangled in the brush bar.

But wait, there’s more! After launching the oversized Dyson Outsize last year for giant American homes, Dyson today announced a smaller variant of its vacuum cleaner designed for smaller spaces, called Dyson Omni-glide.
