The fourth round draw that really arises is not Manchester United against Liverpool – they faced each other in the league the week before, to begin with – but Chorley v Wolverhampton Wanderers. Wolves fans of a certain vintage will remember the team outside the league eliminating the four-time winners in 1986-87, 3-1, after a few draws, so that moods will flow in one way or another. “I went to all three games,” writes Kevin Porter. “Do you know those recurring nightmares?” There are other telling draws: League Two Cheltenham is rewarded with a visit to Manchester City, there is a good chance that Southampton will host Arsenal, Everton and Sheffield Wednesday reestablish the 1966 final, and Chelsea will host Luton in a repeat of the 1994 semifinal.
As for the fifth round … well, let’s not be too quick. But it’s all there, for you to examine. Enjoy your dreams. Oh, and join me in the Stockport v West Ham game, which will decide who will host Doncaster Rovers in the fourth round and possibly travel to Old Trafford or Anfield in the fifth round.

Preamble
It was the best third round of the FA Cup at a fair, wasn’t it? Crawley shocking Leeds. Chorley out of the league going by. Blackpool saying goodbye to Big Sam. Neil Kengni is inches away from giving the eighth division Marines a spectacular advantage against the Spurs. MK Dons midfielder Ben Gladwin almost recreated Ronnie Radford’s famous goal against Burnley. Louie Barry’s age-old, cold finish by Aston Villa U-12 against Liverpool. Late drama between Newport and Brighton. It was a great weekend.
Now, to see who plays whom in the fourth round … and breaking the tradition (although the cup has been sponsored by names like Littlewoods and Budweiser in the past, then we won’t be so precious) the fifth round too. This will help with programming during these strange and postponed times, you know? The clubs on the metaphorical velvet bag for the fourth round are listed below, along with their draw numbers. Once the fourth round draw is completed, a new set of 16 numbers will be generated for the fifth round draw and, before you know it, everyone will be aware of their way to the quarterfinals.
The fourth round draw will take place at 19:10 GMT, with the fifth round draw to follow, all going as planned, at 7:23 pm. It’s on!
