Doorbell camera captures falling jet debris

Shocking footage from the doorbell camera captured a piece of the plane hit by United Airlines. 328 crashing into a Colorado suburban street.

Mark Moskovics’ Captured Nest camera the wreckage of the Boeing 777-200 hitting the road just meters from a parked car – falling so hard that it jumped a few meters in the air before stopping.

Seconds later, an even louder crash seemed to signal the landing of an object that plummeted just to the left of the view of the doorbell camera. The footage was shared with CBS Denver reporter Conor McCue.

Fortunately, the street in Broomfield, a Denver suburb, was quiet and empty – with no reported injuries, despite the falling debris making the neighborhood appear to be in a “war zone”, according to one of Moskovics’ neighbors, Lonnie Kermoade.

“It could have been very tragic,” Kermoade told CBS Denver of the wreckage, some of which also fell in the yard. “Fortunately, God was taking care of everyone.”

An unidentified neighbor shared the photos of a huge hole in his roof, where debris fell as he made sandwiches for his family.

Some of the wreckage also fell into a park that was packed with at least six football teams training, making them run for cover, the Denver Post said.

“Honestly … I thought we were being bombed,” one of the teams’ coaches, Heather Solar, told the newspaper about a large piece of debris falling 3 meters from where she was at Commons Park.

“There was so much debris in the sky,” she said.

Broomfield police tweeted who was “beyond gratitude” for not having injured there, “given the number of people who are in Commons Park on a weekend day”.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it is investigating the burning engine failure, but has not yet speculated on what may have been the cause.

There were no reports of injuries aboard the jet.
