The company claimed that the chain “recklessly disregarded the truth” and participated in a disinformation campaign against it because “the lies were good for Fox’s business”.
“Fox took a small flame” of disinformation and “turned it into a forest fire,” he told Dominion in his lawsuit.
“The truth matters. Lies have consequences,” added Dominion’s lawsuit. “Fox sold a false history of electoral fraud to serve its own commercial purposes, seriously injuring Dominion in the process. If this case does not reach defamation level by a broadcaster, then nothing goes up.”
Dominion said that as a result of Fox’s “orchestrated smear campaign”, she suffered “huge and irreparable economic damage” and that her employees were threatened with death.
A spokesman for Fox said the network was “proud” of its coverage of the 2020 elections, describing it as “in the highest tradition of American journalism”. The spokesman added that Fox will “defend itself vigorously against this unfounded lawsuit”.
In its lawsuit, Dominion specifically mentioned hosts Maria Bartiromo, Tucker Carlson, Lou Dobbs, Sean Hannity and Jeanine Pirro, three of whom were named as defendants in the Smartmatic lawsuit. Fox is the only defendant in this lawsuit.
