Well, I never expected to write this article based on gossip, but since the Hollywood Reporter published it, it’s time to spill the tea: Judd Apatowthe new Netflix comedy The bubble is inspired by the understandably chaotic production of Jurassic World: Domain, according to sources.

Allow me to explain. Jurassic World: Domain was filmed during the pandemic last year, meaning that its cast and crew were forced to quarantine in the UK for months on end, which shouldn’t have been easy. With safety in mind above all, production faced several stops and starts due to positive COVID-19 tests, and that roller coaster ride was well documented by the media.

When the last Apatow film was first announced, a source explained how it came about, saying that a member of the DomainThe big set of was reminding the various ups and downs for the friend Leslie Mann, who then told the story to her husband, Apatow. The director immediately thought it would be a funny movie and, although it has long been based at Universal, this studio is also behind Jurassic World: Domain, and that’s why The bubble ended up on Netflix.

The director has now lined up a cast of stars to The bubble that includes Pedro Pascal, Karen Gillan, Borat 2 sensation Maria bakalova, Fred Armisen, David Duchovny, Peter Serafinowicz and Keegan-Michael Key. Meanwhile, Mann will co-star alongside his youngest daughter, Iris Apatow, whose older sister, Maude, co-starred in Apatow’s latest film The King of Staten Island. It seems that Dad prefers to hang up instead of having favorites.

The bubble it is described as a meta-comedy about a group of actors trapped inside a pandemic bubble in a hotel while trying to complete a major franchise for a major studio. For THR, Pascal and Gillan will play the two stars of the film-within-the-film, although there is no word on whether it will be about dinosaurs. Meanwhile, Mann and Duchovny will play a divorced couple of movie stars – a la Domain stars Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who dated in the 90s – who live together again under the same hotel roof with their teenage daughter (Iris Apatow).

Apatow will produce The bubble and straight from a script that he’s co-writing with Pam Brady, which will be executive production alongside Donald Sabourin and longtime Apatow collaborator Barry Mendel. The production is scheduled to debut next week in London.

THR made sure to note that Netflix members denied that The bubble has something to do with Jurassic World: Domain, but it sure sounds like the tensions were high in that pressure cooker in a set, and it’s understandable. The truth is that Difficult to make a big hit at the box office, even outside a pandemic, but as long as the drama stays behind the scenes and doesn’t leak into the finished film, who really cares? Still, it is fun to gossip, and although I thought this story would have stayed on Zoom’s cocktail circuit, I hope you enjoy this fun story now that it has finally been released.

Jurassic World: Domain will hit theaters in June 2022, but you can wait to see The bubble before. In the meantime, check where Knocked Up falls in our rating of Apatow films.
