Dog barks lead to rescue of owners trapped in avalanche

Two people were rescued from an avalanche in Switzerland after their dogs barked frantically for help, officials said.

The pair were trapped while taking a hike in Avers Valley, near the Italian border, around 3 pm on Saturday, the air ambulance service Rega said.

“His dogs, which were not buried by snow, drew attention by barking loudly,” officials said on Sunday.

“The dogs caught the attention of a group of snowshoers who were some distance away in the same valley, but had not witnessed the avalanche.”

Emergency teams were called and were able to reach the par 15 to 20 minutes later.

One of the hikers was buried completely, while the other’s hands were visible, officials said.
