The Dodgers swapped right-handed Josh Sborz with the Texas Rangers for a secondary league pitcher.
Sborz, 27, was chosen for the Dodgers’ second round at the University of Virginia in 2015. He made the majors briefly in each of the past two seasons, going 0-1 with an ERA of 6.08 in 11 appearances.
Sborz was assigned to the mission last week, when the Dodgers needed to open a vacancy for titular pitcher Trevor Bauer.
In exchange for Sborz, the Rangers will send the Venezuelan right-handed Dodgers, 19-year-old Jhan Zambrano. Zambrano signed with Rangers at age 16 in July 2018 and made his professional debut in the Dominican Summer League in 2019. He reached 5-2 with 2.55 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 60 entries in 12 games (11 matches) ).
Meanwhile, the Dodgers also signed field player Matt Davidson. Davidson, 29, was the Arizona Diamondbacks’ choice in the first round of the draft in 2009. He reached 0.223 in parts of five seasons with the Diamondbacks, Chicago White Sox and Cincinnati Reds. He had two seasons of 20 homer with the White Sox – 26 in 2017 and 20 in 2018. Davidson received an unscheduled invitation to spring training.
Dodgers’ pitchers and catchers report to spring training on Wednesday, with first training on Thursday. The first training session of the complete team is next Tuesday.
