In one of MLB’s biggest offseason moves, Cy NL Young Award winner Trevor Bauer announced that he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. The announcement came after the New York Mets were aggressively trying to add Bauer to their already talented initial rotation. Instead, he chose the World Series champions – who also have a loaded rotation.
Bauer’s deal with the Dodgers is a three-year contract worth $ 102 million. In addition, Bauer may cancel the deal after the 2021 and 2022 seasons. In the next two years, Bauer will make $ 40 million and $ 45 million, respectively.
He racked up a 5-4 record to go along with an ERA of 1.73 and 100 eliminations on 73 entries during the shortened 2020 season for the COVID-19 pandemic. The ace helped take the Cincinnati Reds to their first post-season spot since 2013.
While the Dodgers ended up being Bauer’s destination, their official website actually had a link to new Mets products to the star launcher about an hour before the announcement. There was also a Bauer’s signed Mets hat listed as an offer in the website.
These links and items were eventually deleted. So, there was a Bauer’s autographed Dodgers cap listed as an offer.
So, as it should come as no surprise, Mets fans had a lot to say about Bauer and his decision to sign with the Dodgers. After all, the team made a big bang at the beginning of the off-season, when New York acquired the All-Star shortstop Francisco Lindor in an exchange with the Cleveland Indians. The Mets board hoped to join Bauer with names like Jacob deGrom, Carlos Carrasco and Marcus Stroman.
Bauer’s agent, Rachel Luba, even said a few farewell words to Mets fans.
