Gina Carano is resigning from The Mandalorian it has more to do with general values than with the fact that she suddenly became a rising star among conservatives.
According to Disney CEO Bob Chapak, who commented on Carano’s resignation for the first time on Tuesday, during a shareholders’ meeting.
The former mixed martial arts fighter turned actress claimed she found out about her dismissal on social media after the hashtag #FireGinaCarano on Twitter was trending throughout the same week, after several controversial posts on her social media. Carano was also dismissed by her talent agents at UTA.
The post that caught the most attention was a photo that Carano later deleted, which compared the treatment of people with divergent political views to the same atrocities suffered by Jews in Nazi Germany.
Chapek was directly asked if Disney had any kind of conservative blacklist after Carano was fired while she was Mandalorian Co-star Pedro Pascal was not reprimanded after posting an image on social media that compared immigrant children held in cages on the southern border of the United States with Jews imprisoned in concentration camps.
“I don’t really see Disney characterizing itself as leaning to the left or to the right, but as a champion of values - values that are universal,” said Chapek. “Values of respect, values of decency, values of integrity and values of inclusion.
“And we seek to have not only how we operate, but also the content that makes us a reflection of the rich diversity of the world in which we live.”
Carano’s post was denounced as in bad taste, at best, with others claiming that it was anti-Semitic rhetoric that belittled the suffering of the Jewish people during the Holocaust.
During a lengthy interview with right-wing arsonist Ben Shapiro after his resignation, Carano vehemently denied that he was trying to offend Jews or anyone else with his post. She ended up partnering with Shapiro and her website to produce and star in a new film project while continuing the war of words with her now ex-employer.
“The thought that this will happen to anyone else, especially for someone who couldn’t handle it the way I can, no, they can’t do that,” said Carano during the same interview.
“They can’t make people feel that way (…) and if I bend over, it will be okay for these companies, which have a history of lying, lying and doing this with other people, and they did it with others people, and I will not give up without a fight ”.
