Die Hard: Charlize Theron would love to replace Bruce Willis as the protagonist of the lesbian remake

Last December, someone on social media suggested that Charlize Theron would be the perfect person to star in a lesbian remake of Die Hard.

At the time, the 45-year-old Oscar winner joked in response that she would be ready for the role and in a new interview for Vanity Fair published Tuesday, Theron is doubling down.

“I mean, it’s a great idea,” she said. ‘That’s why I answered on Twitter. Because I just thought it was brilliant. ‘

A fan’s initial tweet posted on December 5, 2020 read: ‘Lesbian romantic Christmas comedies are all very good, but what I REALLY want is a Die Hard where Charlize Theron goes out of her way to save his wife’

Charlize’s quote tweeted the post replying ‘where do I sign’ and suggested that her fan start talking to Hollywood producers.

When asked about the possibility, in her recent interview, Theron seemed more than a game to get into the role that was first made famous by actor Bruce Willis.

‘The fact that there would be two women,’ she said, ‘I was like,’ Yes, apply. ‘

Die Hard, starring Willis as New York City official John McClane, debuted with warm reviews in 1988. However, in the years that followed, the holiday season action film became a classic, garnering a legion of dedicated fans and several sequences.

In the film, McClane is visiting his ex-wife (Bonnie Bedelia) in Los Angeles at her office’s holiday party, when terrorists, led by the late actor Alan Rickman, start wreaking havoc.

With nothing but his wits, an infamous air bomb and an LAPD ally on the ground, McClane goes toe-to-toe with the terrorists to save his wife.

Most Die Hard fans will argue that since the plot of the film is centered around the activities of the Nakatomi Plaza Christmas party, it is in fact a holiday film.

“I mean, it’s a great idea,” she said. ‘That’s why I answered on Twitter. Because I just thought it was brilliant. The fact that they would be two women. I was like, ‘Yes, sign me up’.

Theron should have no problem getting into the role if a remake is on the horizon, as she has already proven her action talent in films like Mad Max and Atomic Blonde.

Charlize’s interview was included in the 27th annual Hollywood edition of Vanity Fair, which launched on Tuesday morning and offered a wide range of talent.

Along with Theron, there was the heartthrob Michael B Jordan from Creed and Black Panther, as well as Ocean’s Eight’s Zendaya of Euphoria and Awkwafina for one of their most diverse versions of all time.

The artists Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari directed 10 photo sessions on four continents. They used ‘modern techniques’ that allowed VF to minimize staff on set and maximize the COVID-19 protocol.

In her interview, the Oscar winner talked about releasing The Old Guard straight to Netflix. ‘Somehow, it was made to go out on [2020]’Theron said of The Old Guard, which came to Netflix last summer.

“And it was supposed to appear only on people’s TV. In the end, that’s why I think it was so successful. Thematically speaks of things that people are going through. And then part of me is like, “So what if it wasn’t on a big screen?” I’m not mad at the fact that more people probably saw The Old Guard than any other film I’ve ever done, other than Fast and Furious, in a movie theater. ‘
