California representative Devin Nunes said on Wednesday that if the Republican Party gains control of the House in 2022, Republicans could face pressure to impeach President Joe Biden.
Democrats in the impeachment Chamber of former President Donald Trump in February for allegedly inciting the January riot in the U.S. Capitol building. Some Republicans said Trump’s rhetoric, which included baseless allegations of electoral fraud, was not an impeachable offense. In an interview with Fox News presenter Sean Hannity, Nunes said that the restoration of certain social media platforms could allow the GOP to disseminate “good information” to the American people.
“If we start providing good information to the American people,” said Nunes, “Republicans have a good chance of taking over the Chamber in 2022. Now, if that happens, and we will – for example, we don’t know what will happen to the Hunter Biden’s laptop. We don’t know what’s going to happen with the Durham investigation. But I could see that the pressure would become great if we really had to charge Biden. ”
“Look, I don’t want to do this, but you will have people who will say that,” added Nunes.
On Wednesday, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) released a list of 47 seats in Congress that it believes could recover in the 2022 elections. “House Republicans start the cycle with just five seats below the majority and are prepared to build on our successes in 2020 to deliver a lasting Republican majority in the House, “said NRCC President Tom Emmer in a statement.

Nunes said other Democratic members of the House, including House impeachment administrators and those who publicly criticized Trump, may also lose their nominations to the House committee.
“Each of these damn guys can be removed from your committee in 2 years,” said Nunes. “This is where we are going if the American people do not face this absurdity.”
In February, House Democrats removed Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia from her positions on the House’s Education and Work Commission, as well as the House Budget Committee. House Republicans refused to blame Greene for his pre-election comments, which seemed to embrace conspiracy theories. Greene also indicated support on social media for the execution of Democratic lawmakers before they could take office.
Trump, the only U.S. president to suffer two impeachment cases, is currently undergoing a Senate trial. Democrats claim that Trump’s baseless allegations of electoral fraud have irritated his supporters and incited violence. After Trump commented at a Stop the Steal rally in Washington, DC in January, his supporters broke into the United States Capitol building in an attempt to prevent Biden’s victory from being certified.
During his comments, in which he said the Democrats had stolen the election, Trump told the crowd “if you don’t fight like hell, you won’t have another country”.
On Tuesday, Texan Senator Ted Cruz criticized the impeachment charge against Trump. “Nothing he said meets legal standards of incitement,” Cruz told Fox News.
Biden did not comment extensively on Trump’s impeachment. “The Senate has its job and is about to start it and I am sure it will conduct itself well,” said Biden on Tuesday. “And that is all I am going to say about impeachment.”
