Detroit Lions signs ex-Saints TE Josh Hill

Detroit Lions hired former New Orleans Saints player Josh Hill, the team announced Saturday morning.

Hill will meet with Lions head coach Dan Campbell, who has served as his sharp-tipped coach for the past five years. Over that time, Hill developed into a solid tight end running block that had an occasional grip. His best year as a receiver was in 2019, when he managed 25 receptions for 226 yards and three touchdowns.

Hill was eliminated by the Saints in early March, in a move that saved the team about $ 2.5 million in much-needed boundary space.

Hill’s signing came just days after Lions made a clean-up move on their own, releasing veteran Jesse James after two disappointing seasons in Detroit. The terms of the Hill deal are not yet known, but his last contract was for three years and $ 8.85 million with the Saints. Hill will turn 31 this year, so there is a solid chance that he will come at a more affordable price.

The Lions are now in a comfortable position in the tight end, with TJ Hockenson and Hunter Bryant completing the room. Detroit also hired Hunter Thedford and Alize Mack for future business earlier this season.
