Detroit Lions officially hires Aaron Glenn as defensive coordinator

Detroit Lions officially signed their first coach under new coach Dan Campbell. The team announced Saturday night that former defensive coach Aaron Glenn is now the team’s defensive coordinator.

We already talked a lot about Glenn and his hiring was practically a formality at this point, but it is worth noting that other teams like Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars were supposedly interested in hiring him too.

Glenn was an NFL All-Pro cornerback for years before turning his attention to coaching. He started out as a scout for the New York Jets for a few years, then switched to assistant coach of the Cleveland Browns’ defense in 2014 and 2015.

He then moved to the New Orleans Saints – where he ended his playing career – as a coach on the team’s defensive back for the past five seasons. There, he overcame Campbell.

Glenn is a highly respected coach who even won an interview with the head coach in this cycle. Considering his work with Marshon Lattimore and the rest of the secondary Saints, this should be considered a solid hire for Lions. Hell, even Lions newbie Jeff Okudah already has a working relationship with Glenn:
