Descendants: the royal wedding will honor the late Cameron Boyce in the plot

The cast of Descendants will come together for an animated special that will center on the nuptials of Mal (Dove Cameron) and Prince Ben (Mitchell Hope), who pledged in Descendants 3 of 2019.

The Descendants: The Royal Wedding, which will air this summer at Disney, will mark the first installment of the franchise without the late Cameron Boyce.

“For many years our love has been tested, but our connection could not be denied,” Cameron narrates in the teaser. ‘A million moments have led to this, where the bride and groom are going to kiss.’

The Disney Channel is paying tribute to Boyce, who died at age 20 after suffering a seizure in July 2019, while continuing to honor his memory.

“The absence of the character Carlos, played by the late Cameron Boyce, will be recognized in the plot and Boyce’s memory will be honored in the broadcast,” wrote the broadcaster in a note obtained by TVLine.

The original stars Sofia Carson, Booboo Stewart, Sarah Jeffery, China Anne McClain, Jedidiah Goodacre, Anna Cathcart, Dan Payne, Bobby Moynihan and Cheyenne Jackson are ready to appear in the family film.

Talking about the film, Gary Marsh, president and creative director of Disney Branded Television, noted it as the ‘Descendants fantasy world with stories and characters anchored in Disney mythology’.

“In the past six years, it has captivated young viewers and has grown to become one of the biggest Disney Channel entertainment franchises of all time,” he continued.

Days after Boyce passed away, Cameron remembered his late co-star with a memorial video in honor of the actor.

“Cameron has always been nice and kind,” said the 25-year-old artist. ‘He was unselfish and generous, magnanimous and undoubtedly a true philanthropist only 20 years old. Loved by anyone who has ever been lucky enough to experience its indescribable light and energy. Cameron was the best example of being human. ‘

Dove posted a series, in which she cried about the actor’s passing and admitted to feeling ‘very strange posts about Cameron on social media’.

‘Cameron was one of my favorite living people in the world, although I know it is not exclusive to me,’ she said. ‘Cameron was a magician – an earth angel.’

The former student of Hairspray Live said that Boyce has always been a loyal and caring friend to her, offering examples of his kind nature: ‘In the past six years, since he was just 14, Cameron has convinced me of countless bumps, helped me overcome eating disorders, helped me to get out of a dark relationship and through endless breakdowns. ‘

Dove opened up about their interactions on the set, recalling charming details about the professional chemistry they shared.

“He would whisper the dance steps to me live on television when I didn’t know what I was doing or held my hand in silence to communicate without words when we both knew we were thinking the same thing,” she said. ‘I can’t count on my hands the number of times we screwed up because we couldn’t stop making ourselves laugh.

She also called Boyce ‘arguably the most talented person most of us will ever meet’, noting that her actions when the cameras were off were just as magnanimous.
