‘Dennis The Menace’ actress was 98 years old – deadline

Gloria Henry, best known for her role as a mother in the classic 1960s comedy Dennis the Menace he died. She was 98 years old.

The actress died on April 3, according to several media reports. Her son, Adam Ellwood, posted pictures of Henry on his Facebook page, paying tribute to her.

Henry was born as Gloria Eileen McEniry in New Orleans, Louisiana, on April 2, 1923. She moved to Los Angeles in her late teens and worked on radio, commercials and acted in theater groups.

She made her film debut in 1947 in Sport of Kings and started to appear in Miss Grant Takes Richmond (1949) alongside Lucille Ball, as well as the western Rancho Notorious (1952) with Marlene Dietrich. His other film credits The Roan Strawberry (1948) Triple threat (1948), Luck on the run (1948), Knights in the sky (1949), and Kill the Referee (1950).

She appeared on TV series as My little Margie, Dad knows best, Perry Mason and Riley’s life. In 1959, she landed the role of Alice Mitchell, the matriarch in the iconic CBS comedy Dennis the Menace based on the comic book character of Hank Ketcham. The series also starred Herbert Anderson as her husband and Jay North in the lead role. She played Alice in the series until it was canceled in 1963.

Later in her career, she appeared in roles in Simon & Simon, Newhart, Doogie Howser, MD and Dallas as well as the 2005 film Your Minor Thing. She also starred in an episode of Parks and recreation in 2012.

She was married to architect Craig Ellwood from 1949 to 1977. They had three children, Jeffrey, Adam and Erin.
