Democrats ask the army to send cribs to troops sleeping on Capitol Hill

Top House spending leaders on Thursday asked the army to send cribs and other equipment to National Guard troops who are sleeping on the ground in Capitol corridors this week.

In a letter to Army Secretary Ryan McCarthy, the Reps. Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut and Betty McCollum (D-Minn.) Said they were “disappointed” by the images that went viral on social media of soldiers resting at the Capitol Rotunda, the Capitol Visitor Center and elsewhere, while the Army struggles to secure accommodation for thousands of soldiers sent to the country’s capital to prevent further violence after last week’s insurrection.

“With the uncertainty of necessary rest and recovery time in flux, and to ensure that members of the Guard are fully capable of carrying out their protection mission, we recommend that you provide cribs or other equipment to more easily facilitate your ability to rest while they are for Capitol reasons, ”wrote DeLauro, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, along with McCollum, the top Democrat on the spending panel that funds the military.
