Nick McGlashan, a fisherman who appeared on Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch” reality show, died. He was 33 years old.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Nick’s loved ones during this difficult time,” Discovery Channel spokeswoman Laurie Goldberg said in a statement to EW Scripps. “Nick came from a long line of crabbers and was known for his great knowledge. He also had a keen sense of humor, even in the most difficult conditions. He will be sorely missed by everyone who met him.”

According to his Discovery biography, the “Deadliest Catch” cast member grew up in Alaska, started eating crabs at age 13 and was a seventh generation fisherman.

According to his biography, McGlashan had a history of alcohol and drugs and went into rehab after being kicked out of the boat in season 13.

“Although he has gone through ups and downs, Nick has fought relentlessly to stay sober and embrace a new, sober lifestyle and is now so committed to his recovery that he inspires others,” said the biography.

According to CNN, officials have not provided the cause of McGlashan’s death and his death is currently under investigation.

USA Today reported that McGlashan started on the show in 2013 and appeared on the spin-offs “Deadliest Catch: The Bait” and “Deadliest Catch: Greenhorn”.
