David Schoen: Trump’s attorney withdraws the request not to have an impeachment trial on Saturday

In a letter written to Sens. Pat Leahy, Chuck Schumer and Mitch McConnell, Schoen wrote: “Based on the adjustments that were made to the President’s defense team, I am writing today to withdraw my request so that the process can proceed as originally envisaged before placing my request. No I will participate during Saturday, but the role that I would have played will be fully covered to the satisfaction of the defense team. “

He also wrote: “I was informed that his response to my letter was to gracefully accommodate my observance of the Sabbath and to set a timetable for the approaching impeachment trial, which meant suspending the trial for the Jewish Sabbath. you intended to have for the trial. I very much appreciated your decision; but I remained concerned about the delay in the process. ”

This will likely lead to a change in the trial schedule set out in the resolution that was scheduled to be passed on Tuesday. The resolution text, which set the parameters for the test duration and schedule, included a text to pause the test on Friday night and restart it on Sunday afternoon.

Schumer’s office said over the weekend that the Senate would accommodate Schoen’s request.

It was unclear by Monday evening what Schoen’s withdrawal would affect the schedule for the impeachment trial, which is scheduled to begin Tuesday afternoon.
