David Perdue files the paperwork to run for the 2022 US Senate race in Georgia

Perdue is inclined to launch another campaign, according to a person familiar with his thinking.

If he decides to run, Perdue will face Georgia senator Raphael Warnock, the senior pastor of the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta. Warnock and Jon Ossoff beat Republicans Sens, respectively. Kelly Loeffler and Perdue in January, becoming the Senate. The two Democrats were the first elected to the Senate by Georgia in 20 years.
Perdue said in a statement at the time: “Although we won the general election, we fell a little short of Georgia’s 50% rule and now I want to congratulate the Democratic Party and my opponent for this victory in the second round.”

“Bonnie and I will continue to pray for our wonderful state and our great country. May God continue to bless Georgia and the United States of America.”

Perdue’s campaign faced considerable scrutiny after he deliberately mispronounced Kamala Harris’s name. He was also forced to pull a digital ad attacking Ossoff, which showed the nose of the enlarged Democrat, a trademark of an anti-Semitic trope.

A spokeswoman for the campaign at the time called the distorted image “accidental … but to make sure there is no confusion, we immediately removed the image from Facebook”.

The spokeswoman said Perdue has “a strong and consistent record of standing firmly against anti-Semitism and all forms of hatred” and co-sponsored a 2019 resolution condemning anti-Semitism.

Although the tight political calendar in January meant that Perdue was not in office when Congress met for a joint session of the Electoral College, he told Fox News ahead of the count that he supported opponents by spreading false information about electoral fraud.

“I am encouraging my colleagues to object. This is something that the American people demand now,” said Perdue at the time. “There are huge irregularities in Georgia. They need to be investigated and corrected, in my opinion.”
