Ken Jennings, named by some as the man most likely to take command of the late “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek, is apologizing for the end of the year.
“Hey, I just wanted to acknowledge the fact that over the years on Twitter, I definitely tweeted some uninspiring and insensitive things. Sometimes they acted like jokes in my head and I was dismayed to see how they read on the screen ”, the most winning“ Jeopardy! ”A competitor tweeted on Wednesday, starting a topic on the subject.
Some of his questionable tweets: “Nothing is sadder than a hot person in a wheelchair”, posted in 2014, was seen as capable and insulting. This prompted wheelchair users on Twitter to post selfies and use hashtags, including #DisabledAndCute and #HotPersonInAWheelchair.
“It can’t be a good sign that all the fans who saw the new Star Wars movie died shortly after that,” he posted in 2015, mocking a 32-year-old “Star Wars” fan whose last wish was to see “The Force Awakens ”Before dying from spindle cell sarcoma. JJ Abrams allowed the fan to watch an unfinished version and died days later.
And posted in 2018, “This terrible grandma MAGA is my favorite person on Twitter” was Jennings’ Twitter take about a woman mourning the death of her son, who loved TV character Alf very much.
But apparently, the GOAT question-and-answer game is now recognizing its past mistakes – which comments are suggesting may be part of its path to eventually winning the permanent “Jeopardy!” host work.
“In the past, I usually left bad tweets in the air just so they could be ignored. At least that way, they could lead to smart responses and even advocacy. Deleting them seemed like a bleaching error, ”wrote Jennings. “But I think this practice may have given the impression that I keep all the failed jokes that I posted here. Not at all!”
He continued: “Sometimes I said stupid things in a stupid way and I want to apologize to people who were (rightly) offended. It wasn’t my intention to hurt anyone, but it doesn’t matter: I blew it and I’m really sorry.
“If 2020 taught us anything, it is that we should be kinder to each other. I’m looking forward to entering 2021 with that in mind, ”he concluded.
Jennings was appointed a Consult producer in the program in September, which means he presented his own video categories, developed projects, helped reach competitors and served as a “Jeopardy!” general ambassador.
When Trebek died of pancreatic cancer on November 8, “Jeopardy!” was on a hiatus. The program resumed recording on November 30, with Jennings as the first in a series still unknown of “familiar” interim presenters, with a final decision on the permanent presenter to come in the future. These episodes will air on Monday, January 11, after a week with Trebek’s last appearances.
