Cyndi Lauper, Billy Porter’s New Year’s Eve performance criticized by viewers: ‘Final punishment for 2020’

Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter left 2020 with a bang.

The 67-year-old music icon took the stage in New York last night to celebrate New Year’s Eve and sang several of his songs, including “True Colors” as a duet with Porter.

The number, which started its presentation, was immediately criticized on Twitter.

“Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter sound like two 8 year olds doing a ‘show’ for adults with the intention of asking for a sleepover later,” said a user.

“That duet of Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter was the real pandemic of 2020”, wrote another.

A third added: “Cyndi Lauper and Billy Porter sounded like me, drunk on karaoke night.”

She then presented an EDM-themed version of her 2019 song “Hope”, which set fire to the social media site.

“Cyndi Lauper’s performance was the final punishment for 2020,” Tweeted a viewer.

“Cyndi Lauper is currently presenting the worst NYE live performance in history,” said another. “Switch to ABC now. It’s a glorious train wreck.”

Yet another so-called eccentric performance “a drug trip, “while one more viewer noticed that the performance”pretty much sums up 2020. “

Lauper is obviously known as one of the most popular stars of the 1980s. Outside of “True Colors”, his most notable hits include “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” and “Time After Time”.

The musician won two Grammys throughout her career, including the coveted award for best new artist in 1985. Her second win came in 2014 for her work writing songs for the Broadway musical “Kinky Boots”.

The musical is his connection to Porter, 51, who won a Tony and a Grammy for his performance on the program. Porter and Lauper also won Emmy for acting.
