CW’s ‘Powerpuff Girls’ Revealed: Dove Cameron, Chloe Bennet, Yana Perrault

The trio will star in the live-action pilot of Heather Regnier, Diablo Cody and Greg Berlanti.

The CW’s Super powerful girls are coming to life.

Dove Cameron (Liv and Maddie), Chloe Bennet (SHIELD agents) and Yana Perrault (from Broadway Toothed pill) were chosen to star in the network’s live action in Cartoon Network’s beloved animated series.

Ordered to pilot last month, the drama revolves around the Powerpuff Girls, who used to be America’s tiny superheroes. Now they are disillusioned young men in their twenties who resent having lost their childhood to fight crime. Will they agree to meet now that the world needs them more than ever?

Cameron will play Bubbles Utonium, whose sweet disposition won the hearts of the United States as a child. She still shines like an adult, but her charming exterior hides unexpected toughness and intelligence. She is initially more interested in recapturing her fame than in saving the world, but she may surprise us and herself. Cameron won a daytime Emmy for his role on Disney Channel’s Liv and Maddie in 2018 and has Disney’s Decendants and NBC’s Hairspray Live between your credits. The cast brings together Cameron and Bennet, who had previously worked together on ABC’s Marvel drama SHIELD agents. She is represented by A3 Artists Agency, LBI and Felker Toczek.

Bennet poses as Blossom Utonium, who, although she was a courageous, conscientious and perfect child of varying degrees, Blossom’s pent-up childhood superhero trauma made her anxious and reclusive, and she intends to become a leader again – this time on your own terms. Bennet’s credits also include ABC Nashville. She is represented by CAA, MGMT Entertainment and McKuin Frankel.

Perrault completes the main trio as Buttercup Utonium, who was the rebellious tough guy from the Powerpuff Girls in its heyday. More sensitive than her tough exterior suggests, Buttercup spent her adult life trying to get rid of her Powerpuff Girl identity and live an anonymous life. Perrault was most recently seen on Broadway in the musical Alanis Morissette Small Pill Jagged. Before the pandemic, the singer was about to join the cast of Hamilton. She is represented by Hudson Artists Agency.

Based on Cartoon Network’s original animation series and characters created by Craig McCracken, Heather Regnier (Veronica Mars, Sleepy Hollow) and Diablo Cody (Juno) will write the script. The duo will executive produce alongside Berlanti and his Berlanti Productions banner partner Sarah Schechter and TV President David Madden. Maggie Kiley also produces and will direct the pilot.
