Texas Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn will lead a Senate delegation to the border next week, while Republicans are increasing pressure on the Biden government for what they say is a crisis fueled by the government’s own immigration policies.
“The border crisis is the direct result of the Biden government’s failed immigration policy,” Cruz tweeted on Tuesday.

Lawmakers will conduct a delegation to visit the Texas-Mexico border and will include a roundtable discussion with local stakeholders, their offices said.
The number of migrants has increased dramatically in recent weeks. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) found more than 100,000 migrants in February, and the number of unaccompanied children in custody has tripled.
The government has increased facility space, opening more facilities and removing capacity restrictions for COVID-19, but Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said on Tuesday that the situation was “difficult” as he warned that USA were on their way to find more migrants than in the past 20 years.

Republicans pointed to Biden’s measures to reverse the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) – which kept migrants in Mexico for their immigration hearings – the suspension of wall construction and the reduction of internal inspection to encourage the increase.
Senator Steve Daines, R-Mont., Announced that he would tour “to see firsthand the damage from @JoeBiden’s open border policies”.
Republicans have called for hearings on the crisis, while border states have sued the administration for their guidance that limits the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) priorities for arrest and deportation.

Republicans on the House’s Internal Security Committee visited the border over the weekend – before Mayorkas testified before the Committee on Wednesday.
“The end result is that what they are doing is not working. And I think we should sit down together and find a way to fix this. But, to unilaterally get rid of all these things, it caused a huge crisis in the south border,” he said. Congressman John Katko, RN.Y. “You have children, but you have unaccompanied minors who discover some numbers that we have not seen. And, according to themselves, it will be a record for 20 years. It is a crisis. And they created this crisis and they should overcome it again.”

Mayorkas issued a lengthy statement on Tuesday defending government policies and suggesting that he would not change course anytime soon.
“The situation on the southwestern border is difficult,” said Mayorkas. “We are working 24 hours a day to manage it and will continue to do so. This is our job. We are progressing and executing our plan. It will take time and we will not falter in our commitment to succeed. “
