COVID vaccine updates: New air travel pandemic record set Friday at US airports

NEW YORK (WABC) – Experts say this weekend could be the busiest for air travel since the pandemic began.

More than 1.58 million people passed TSA control points on Friday. It is the maximum number of people who have flown in a single day since the start of the pandemic.

He came on the same day that the CDC announced that fully vaccinated Americans can travel “at low risk to themselves”.

However, the organization still asks people not to travel, unless necessary.

New York vaccination update
Governor Cuomo announced on Sunday that 1 in 3 New Yorkers received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine and 1 in 5 is fully vaccinated.

Cuomo said 187,964 doses had been administered across the state’s vast distribution network in the past 24 hours, and more than 1.4 million doses had been administered in the past seven days. The distribution of week 16 of 1,389,705 first and second doses is expected to end on Sunday.

“As universal vaccine eligibility is set to go into effect this week in New York, our goal is to continue to get as many vaccines in arms as quickly and equally as possible,” said Cuomo

In the Easter speech, the pope calls pandemic wars “scandalous”
Pope Francis used his traditional Easter speech to denounce as “scandalous” that the war continues to rage and military arsenals are gaining weight around the world as the coronavirus pandemic causes social and economic suffering.

Francis seasoned his speech on world affairs on Easter Sunday with wishes of joy, along with reports of pain from the many armed conflicts in the world and other sources of violence. He also again appealed to the international community to overcome delays in the distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and to ensure that supplies reach the poorest countries. For the second consecutive Easter, the pope read his speech from inside St. Peter’s Basilica, instead of outdoors, to discourage the crowds in St. Peter’s Square.

Europe steps up vaccinations as virus haunts Easter holidays
Thousands of people across France are spending the Easter holiday lining up for injections of COVID-19, while the government is trying to speed up vaccinations amid a new outbreak of infections.

In Lyon, a football team opened its stadium for the holiday weekend as a mass vaccination center and provided 200 volunteers to help medical workers. But as Europe faced its second consecutive Easter Sunday under the pandemic cloud, some French cities resisted President Emmanuel Macron’s insistence on vaccinating during the extended holiday. Spain, Italy and Germany maintained some vaccination centers, but others closed because of the holiday.

Easter celebrations in New York
Things will look a little different this year in New York for Easter Sunday due to the coronavirus pandemic. The annual Easter parade and the Bonnet Festival on Fifth Avenue are becoming virtual for the second year, while the COVID-19 security protocols will be in place for Sunday mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

PA mitigation restrictions, but changes do not apply to Philadelphia
People living in Pennsylvania can also expect easing of restrictions. Starting on Sunday, restaurants in Keystone State can increase their capacity to 75%. The changes to restaurants do not apply to Philadelphia, where there has been an increase in COVID and hospitalization rates. Estimates are that 50 percent of the city’s population will be vaccinated by April 30.

Britain to test virus certificates for events

The government of Great Britain is planning to test a plan to certify coronavirus status in the coming months to allow the safe return of mass meetings in places such as sports fields and nightclubs. Authorities are expected to consider passports that show whether a person has received a vaccine, has recently tested negative for the virus or has immunity from having tested positive in the previous six months.

Michigan does not implement stricter restrictions as COVID cases increase
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer will not implement stricter restrictions, despite the increase in her status in new COVID cases, citing instead the need for residents to follow appropriate health guidelines.

Beware of COVID vaccine research scams, 7 On Your Side warns
With vaccines increasingly widespread, new vaccination-related scams are emerging. First, there are fake registration cards being sold on the Internet. The most recent are fake vaccine research. These searches attract you with the promise of a prize or cash at the end, but in reality they are only designed to trick you into handing over your identity keys and entering your bank account.

Can I still transmit the coronavirus after receiving the COVID vaccine?
It is also possible to spread the coronavirus after vaccination. Experts say the risk is low, but are still studying how injections slow the spread of the virus. Current vaccines are highly effective in preventing serious illnesses with COVID-19, but even if vaccinated people do not get sick, they can still be infected without showing any symptoms. Experts believe that the vaccine would also reduce the chances of these people spreading the virus.
“A vaccinated person controls the virus better, so the chances of transmission will be greatly reduced,” said Dr. Robert Gallo, a virus expert at the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
