Home care home visits have resumed in England today and the BBC has spoken to some of the affected people.

Beccy Pile, 48, of St Albans, Hertfordshire, spent an hour with her 23-year-old son today at her nursing home in Essex earlier.

Luke has lived in a home for adults with learning difficulties for three years – but Beccy has only seen him twice in the past year, before today.

“It feels like it’s been forever since I last saw him,” she says. “It was amazing. He was very excited and had tidied up his apartment.

“We had to stop ourselves from hugging because it wasn’t allowed yet, but he has a hug sign where he puts his arms over his chest, which he does and sends me a lot of kisses.

“The visit was incredibly well managed. I only had an hour, but it didn’t seem like an hour because the house was all set.

“I did my test in the car park half an hour earlier and as soon as it was negative I was able to go in and spend time with him.

“I had a moment when I thought ‘what if it’s positive why does Luke think I’m coming?’ I thought I would just have to see him through the window or something, but luckily everything was fine. “
