COVID-19 vaccine shipment arrives in San Diego after its postponement calls for the closure of the downtown vaccination center – NBC 7 San Diego

San Diego County received a shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine, whose delay last week led to a shortage of supplies that forced at least one vaccination site administered by the county to close for days.

Shipping of the Modern vaccine was expected to arrive in San Diego County on Friday, but was postponed for an unspecified reason. He finally arrived on Tuesday, but what caused the delay is still unclear.

The missing doses meant that San Diego County had to interrupt some scheduled COVID-19 vaccine appointments, specifically at the San Diego Vaccination Supersite center adjacent to Petco Park and operated by UC San Diego Health.

The site was closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, but will reopen on Wednesday as planned, according to UC San Diego Health.

“Petco’s appointments will be automatically rescheduled through UCSD MyChart,” said the health group.

Other locations had to limit the availability of appointments for those seeking their second chance – even postponing some appointments for patients who attended for the first time. The county said it had enough supplies to get them through Monday.

The county did not know how many vaccines were scheduled to be delivered on Friday, but it was notified on Thursday night that doses would not arrive.

Frustrations in securing what appears to be an illusory appointment for the vaccine have troubled eligible residents. Online slots for vaccinations have been filled quickly, leaving some locations waiting for the injection, and Friday’s delay adds to their frustrations.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have warned that people awaiting the second injection will still achieve maximum immunity within 42 days between doses.
