Country singer Morgan Wallen apologizes for saying N-word in the leaked video: ‘I’m ashamed and I’m sorry’

Country singer Morgan Wallen filed an apology after a video appeared showing him using the N word.

“I am ashamed and sorry,” said Wallen, 27, in a statement shared with Fox News.

“I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slander that I would like to be able to remove. There is no excuse for using that kind of language, ever. I sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better,” he continued.

Wallen’s remorse comes after TMZ posted a video of the “Wasted On You” singer’s return home on Sunday night with a group of friends. The clip shows Wallen walking up his garage while referring to one of his friends as the N word and using other bad words.

The country star and his friends reportedly left Nashville before returning home around midnight. TMZ reports that the group was filmed by a neighbor who woke up to the noise of the conversation, in addition to horns.

This is not the first time the artist has been forced to apologize after being the target of leaked footage. In the fall of 2020, the 27-year-old was prevented from a scheduled performance on “Saturday Night Live” after a video of Wallen at a crowded, unmasked party amid the coronavirus pandemic appeared.

He called the show’s decision to get him out of the performance “difficult” but “necessary”.

“I respect the program’s decision because I know I put them at risk,” continued Wallen. “I take responsibility for that. I would like to apologize to ‘SNL’, my fans, my team for bringing me these opportunities and I disappointed them.”

He was, however, invited to return two months later to perform on the program.

And in May 2020, the “Whiskey Glasses” singer was arrested after being kicked out of the Kid Rock bar in downtown Nashville.

According to The Tennessean, after Wallen was kicked out of the bar, he started to get into verbal fights with passersby on the streets, which the police were watching. After refusing to leave with his friends when given the opportunity by the police, they determined that Wallen was “a danger to himself and the public” and took him into custody.

“Hey, you guys just wanted to clean the air. I went out downtown last night with some old friends.” Wallen tweeted after the incident. “After a few stops at the bar, we were playing with each other. It was not our intention to cause harm and we want to apologize to any barman or anyone who has been affected.”

Last July, Wallen welcomed a son, Indigo Wilder, with his ex KT Smith. In the middle of the year that made the headlines, the country singer admitted that he has “a lot to grow”.

“I think I got lost a little bit. I tried to find joy in the wrong places and it left me with less joy,” he said. “So I’m going to try to work on it. I’m going to step back from the spotlight for a while and work on myself.”
