In news that is sure to make you feel old, God of War II is celebrating its 14th birthday this weekend. The game – released on PlayStation 2 after the launch of the PS3 – is widely considered to be a classic, with its gigantic parts sets and general mastery of Sony’s hardware. He also saw Cory Barlog take over the reins of series creator David Jaffe.
And writing about Twitter, he admitted that “I had no idea what the hell I was doing practically all the time”. He added: “Every day it felt like I was being played on stage on the opening night to present a musical that I had never heard of, let alone rehearsed. Fortunately, I was inspired at every step by a brilliant team. “

Barlog ended up leaving Sony Santa Monica and worked at several different studios, including Crystal Dynamics and Avalanche, before returning to PlayStation to direct the series’ recent award-winning reboot. As for what he’s working on right now, well, we know that God of War Ragnarok is coming – but it looks like the developer has a lot more up his sleeve.
