Cook ‘excited’ about the progress of Apple’s Silicon transition

Apple CEO Tim Cook says the company has “a lot more to do”, but is excited about the way the first Apple Silicon M1 Macs were received.

Speaking during the legally mandatory quarterly earnings call, Cook answered analysts’ questions about M1 Macs, the first Apple computers to be powered by internally designed silicon. Emphasizing repeatedly that he sees this as the beginning of the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon, he said that Apple is excited about the progress so far.

“We are in the middle of the transition and we have a lot more to do,” he said. “We are in the first days of a two-year transition, but we are excited about what we have seen so far.”

“If you look at the switcher [from PC to Mac]”he continued,” if you look at the new Mac and the new iPad, those numbers around the world are about half of purchases made by people who are new. Therefore, the facility base is still expanding with new customers. ”

“This is true on the iPad and the Mac [but] if you look at the Mac, M1, I think it gives us a new growth trajectory that we didn’t have in the past, “he continued.” Certainly, if Q1 is a good proxy, there is a lot of excitement about M1-based Macs. ”

Apple launched its first M1 Macs last year with the MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the Mac mini. Customer feedback has been largely positive, with many praising the speed and efficiency of the new computers compared to previous Macs and Windows.

It is rumored that the company will launch a pair of next-generation MacBook Pro models redesigned with M1 chips in the third quarter, while the iMac and Mac Pro could benefit from the Apple Silicon later this year.
