Republican Representative Lauren Boebert’s spokesman resigned less than two weeks after she was sworn in, saying she was incited by the insurrection on the Capitol
DENVER – Republican Representative Lauren Boebert’s spokesman resigned less than two weeks after she was sworn in, saying she was incited by the insurrection in the nation’s Capitol.
Ben Goldey confirmed his departure for The Colorado Sun after it was first reported on Saturday by Axios. The Sun reported that Goldey did not answer additional questions, but told Axios that he was leaving after a deadly January 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.
Boebert, a Colorado Republican in his first term with ties to the groundless conspiracy theory QAnon, tried to overthrow President-elect Joe Biden’s victory and gained attention by promising to carry a gun on Capitol Hill.
“After the January 6 events, I decided to part with the office,” Goldey told Axios. “I wish her and the people of the Third District of Colorado the best.”
Boebert’s office declined to comment. “The office does not comment on internal personnel issues with individual employees,” Jeff Small, Boebert’s chief of staff, told The Colorado Sun on Saturday.
Goldey’s replacement has already been hired. Boebert’s team is largely made up of former officials of President Donald Trump and former Republican United States Senator Cory Gardner.
