Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee presents articles of impeachment against President Trump

HOUSTON – Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee presented articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump. This happened a day after a pro-Trump rebellion on the United States Capitol on Wednesday.

Jackson Lee, a senior member of the House’s Judiciary, Homeland Security and Budget Committees, in a statement, said: “Our Constitution was written as a guide to govern our democracy and protect it from authoritarian and tyrannical control. It also serves as a tool to protect our nation from foreign and domestic enemies that intend to harm our Republic. At this time in our history, our constitutional ancestors are calling for us to use the tools provided in this eternal document. Yesterday, we saw domestic enemies inciting violence and invading people’s homes with the intention of causing damage. Enough is enough! The president has completely lost any moral authority he has and is inadequate as commander in chief. His actions to incite violence against his own government and the entire Congress justify his removal from office. And if government officials refuse to invoke the 25th Amendment, I am moving forward with Articles of Impeachment to remove him from office for the following reasons: ”

Donald John Trump has been actively and continuously engaged in undermining the essential institutions and foundations of a democratic system of government in the United States, engaging in a long series of abuses and usurpations, invariably pursuing the same goal, evidencing a project to become an irresponsible and independent ruling authoritarian of the people of the United States for:

  • Request and receive help from a hostile foreign power to help you secure the 2016 election as President of the United States.
  • Refusing to acknowledge Russian interference in the United States’ internal affairs, and then opposing the responses of Congress and the Executive Branch to protect national security and the interests of the United States against future Russian interference and aggression.
  • Publicly transmitting his interest and willingness to accept the help of foreign powers in his attempt to obtain re-election as President of the United States.
  • Continuously refusing to acknowledge to the American people that it would accept and be bound by the verdict rendered in the 2020 presidential election, claiming that any outcome in which it was not declared a winner was fraudulent, fraudulent and illegitimate.
  • Take active measures to prevent and undermine the ability of American citizens to express their disapproval of their permanence in office by exercising their rights as voters, including the misuse of the United States Postal Service to prevent timely delivery of ballots.
  • To institute frivolous lawsuits to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, falsely alleging widespread electoral fraud, but producing no evidence to support his spurious allegations.
  • To urge and incite his supporters to falsely believe that the victory in the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him and that the Constitutionally required Joint Congress Meeting for the purposes of counting voters’ votes and announcing the result by the Senate President was illegitimate and intended complete the theft of your victory.
  • Failure to take measures to protect and defend federal officials and officials, properties, buildings and institutions on January 6, 2021, at the United States Capitol which was besieged by supporters of Donald John Trump, resulting in major damage to United States property and the death of at least four people.

“As the resolution points out and makes clear, a person ‘whose character is therefore marked by all acts that can define a tyrant, is incapable of being the ruler of a free people,’ and justifies impeachment and removal as President of the U.S . “
