House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff joined a growing list of lawmakers on both sides of the corridor calling for President Trump to be impeached, days after a Trump-loyal crowd stormed the Capitol.
PELOSI TAKES AN INITIAL STEP TO TRY TO REMOVE TRUMP
“The Chamber must act to initiate the impeachment process,” Schiff, D-Calif. – who led the first impeachment case against Trump – said in a statement. “It is the only instrument fully in our power to remove a president who has manifestly and repeatedly violated the constitution.”
A second impeachment and Trump removal attempt could be approved by the Democratic-controlled House, but it would need the support of more than a dozen Republican lawmakers to succeed in the Senate.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., Said she is ready to move Trump’s impeachment if he does not resign and Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet do not invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Trump from office.
A series of abrupt layoffs this week by Cabinet members, including Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and Transport Secretary Elaine Chao, make the latter an unlikely option.

The impeachment articles that are likely to claim that Trump incited the deadly riot on Capitol Hill to prevent Congressional recognition of the results of the presidential election are due to be presented on Monday, with a vote in the House as early as Wednesday.
“[F]After the president’s dangerous and seditious acts, Republicans in Congress must … ask Trump to step down – immediately, “wrote Pelosi in a letter to fellow Democrats on Friday.” If the president does not leave his post imminently and voluntarily, Congress will continue our action ”.
BIDEN SAYS “NOT SUITABLE TO SERVE” TRUMP, LACK OF IMPEACHMENT QUESTION
Schiff warned that the danger of Trump “continuing to abuse his power will increase, not decrease, in the time remaining in his term”.
Republican Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska said he would consider impeachment articles if filed, while Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska said it was time for Trump to leave.
He just “needs to get out,” Murkowski told the Anchorage Daily News, urging the president to step down.
Schiff agreed. “The best way would be for him to resign, but that would require a devotion to the country that Trump has never shown,” he said.

If Congress’ removal is successful, Trump will become the first president in U.S. history to be impeached twice and will likely be prevented from running for federal office again.
