Bon Secours St. Francis and Medical University of South Carolina, two healthcare providers in Greenville County, SC, are teaming up to address the shortage of emergency medical services in the northern part of the county, according to a report of 15 February Greenville News report.
County officials and local residents have been concerned about the shortage of emergency services in the area since Prisma Health, based in Greenville, said on Nov. 5 that it would not reopen the emergency department that closed in April. The health system is closing the department due to a lack of emergency patients, according to the newspaper.
Bon Secours St. Francis and Medical University of South Carolina are working with local authorities to establish a new emergency room, but details on staff, location and cost have yet to be determined.
