Before its release on Friday, ComingSoon.net spoke with co-writer Adele Lim and co-producer Osnat Shurer about Disney’s newest animated adventure Raya and the Last Dragon. The duo discussed how the world around them inspired the story, including their observations about the division in the world, saying that the entire team knew they wanted the film to come together for the greater good. They also share the need to explore what it means to “collaborate and be together with their differences, celebrating differences rather than eradicating them”. Shurer and Lim also talk about trust, environmental issues and more about what the characters and the divided lands mean for Raya’s journey.

The film is slated to hit theaters and Disney + Premier Access this Friday, March 5. You can check out our interviews now in the player below!

Long ago, in the fantasy world of Kumandra, humans and dragons lived together in harmony. But when an evil force threatened the land, the dragons sacrificed themselves to save humanity. Now, 500 years later, the same evil has returned and it is up to a lone warrior, Raya, to track down the legendary last dragon to restore the fractured land and its divided people. However, over the course of her journey, she will learn that it will take more than one dragon to save the world – it will take trust and teamwork as well.

Raya and the Last Dragon is led by Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) like Raya, who will be the first in Southeast Asia to lead a Disney animated film. Tran star next to Awkwafina (The Goodbye), which is giving voice to the dragon called Sisu.
