Chrissy Teigen shared a photo of her first Shabbat dinner on Friday.
The celebrity and cookbook author made a full disclosure to her friends and shared the menu on Twitter.
Teigen made chicken soup, another chicken dish, kugel and challah. Also on the menu was a chocolate babka she bought at Trader Joe’s on the recommendation of her friends.
Teigen credited the Israeli-American chef and cookbook author Adeena Sussman (co-author of “Cravings” and “Cravings: Hungry for More” with Teigen) for the chicken recipe she made for this Shabbat dinner.
Teigen and Sussman had already celebrated Hanukkah together in December. “We had the most beautiful night full of intestinal laughter, breast meat and 1000 hour latkes eaten and Ubered around town,” wrote the mother of two about her first Hanukkah celebration on Instagram at the time.
And Teigen’s Shabbat dinner seems to have been as elaborate as his family’s Hanukkah meal.
The famous domestic cook – who recently revealed that she likes to have several ovens in her kitchen for efficiency’s sake – wrote about her Shabbat party: “Wow, I could never do that every Friday, but it was beautiful!”
She shared a photo of herself in the kitchen with a lace scarf over her head, which some fans recognized as a Jewish tradition.
Shabbat is the day of rest for Judaism
In the Jewish religion, Shabbat is a weekly rest day beginning at sunset on Friday and ending after sunset on Saturday.
There are many ways to celebrate, depending on the level of religious involvement that the host observes. At a Shabbat dinner, guests can expect to gather for the meal and prayers that welcome the day. (Teigen did not mention whether she lit Shabbat candles or recited any prayers.)
The dress code may vary again depending on religious observance, but Teigen chose to wear a traditional headgear for religious Jews who follow more orthodox rules.
In response to some criticism that Teigen received for wearing the lace scarf on his head, the celebrity shared that “would have been used by my * Jewish * grandmother”. According to Kveller, Teigen’s paternal grandmother was of Jewish descent from Germany.
Some fans have also criticized the supermodel for wearing a diamond-shaped jewel between her eyebrows, they say it resembles a bindi, which traditionally represents the idea of a third eye or sixth chakra in Hinduism.
After clarifying that the crystal was not made to function as a bindi, but that it is part of a new look that she is wearing recently, she directed fans back to her Instagram page, where she has several pictures of herself wearing jewelry on the face.
