Parker earlier this month opened up about the genesis of the new project in a pre-recorded clip broadcast on a virtual benefit for the Central Park Conservancy’s Playground Partners program, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

She said the idea first came up during shelter applications at the site last spring, amid the outbreak of COVID-19.

‘I mean around April or May … I was listening to a podcast and it occurred to me that [showrunner] Michael Patrick King and I never talked about our experience of working and producing the show, ‘said Parker.

She added that the idea went from a procedural podcast to an extension of the popular series, this time addressing contemporary issues raised by the pandemic.

“New York closed in a way that also affected many other people because it is the center of finance, it is the center of culture, it could be argued, and its silence was deafening,” she said. ‘All of these conversations were becoming a big part of our experience inside our homes, Michael and I were just really interested.

‘And so it was born – And so it is.’

Production of the project is expected to begin this spring.
