Comedian and actor Chris D’Elia posted a 10-minute video on YouTube on Friday in which he addresses the allegations of sexual misconduct brought up against him last summer, stating that he has a “problem” and that sex ” controlled ”his life. However, he stated that all of his relationships were consensual and legal.
“I have a chance to apologize here, to the people who were caught in this shit,” said D’Elia. “The lies I would tell my fiance, my friends – I’m sorry.”
In June 2020, D’Elia began to be a trend on social media after several women accused him of sexual misconduct when they were minors, some of them only 16 years old at the time of the supposed meetings. Many claimed that he sent inappropriate messages and tried to request nude photos of them, with a woman accusing him of trying to treat her. Shortly after the accusations surfaced, D’Elia issued a brief statement and was later dismissed by his talent agency CAA. In addition to a brief statement denying the charges in June, D’Elia has made no further comment so far.
In his Friday video, D’Elia said he was seeking treatment for his sex problem. “It was the focus, it was my focus all the time. And I had a problem and I have a problem. It is not as if, months later, everything is better. I need to work on that. “
D’Elia added that his “life control” problem has disrupted his relationships, saying he has betrayed most of the women he has been with, including his fiancee, whom he called his “dream girl”. He said he has “done the job” to be a better role model for his son and has been recovering for a few months.
Although known for his stand-up comedy, D’Elia appeared more recently in the second season of “You”, where he played a comedian who sexually abuses girls.
