Ohio’s defensive side, Chase Young, seemed the safest choice in the 2020 draft and lived up to all expectations in its first season.
The defensive side of Washington ended its debut season with the honors of Defensive Rookie of the Year. He received 42 1/2 votes to 4 1/2 for the safety of Jeremy Chinn Panthers. Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen received two and Bucs safety Antoine Winfield Jr. one.
“I definitely feel that way [having fun] that’s why I play the game, ”Young told the Associated Press. “From the first time I was a child, I loved the game. I definitely like to have fun when I’m playing. “
In the last seven games of the season, overall choice 2 totaled four sacks, eight quarterback hits, five tackles for defeat, three forced fumbles, three recovered fumbles and a touchdown. This helped Washington secure the NFC East title.
Young ended the year with 44 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 10 loss tackles, 12 quarterback strikes, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.
He becomes the third consecutive pass rusher to win the prize and the first player in the team’s history to take the prize home.
