CBS launches review after Sharon Osbourne clashes with co-host over Piers Morgan

CBS launched an internal review after Sharon Osbourne clashed with co-host Sheryl Underwood over Osbourne’s support for former “Good Morning Britain” host Piers Morgan after he left the show.

“We are committed to a diverse, inclusive and respectful work environment,” said CBS in a statement to The Hill. “All matters relating to Wednesday’s episode of ‘The Talk’ are currently under internal review.”

Part of Wednesday’s episode became tense after Underwood asked Osbourne what she would say to those who considered Osbourne’s support for Morgan to be racist.

“I feel like I’m about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend that many people think is racist, so that makes me a racist. And for me, at the age of 68, having to turn around and say, ‘I’m not a racist’ – what does that have to do with me? ”Osbourne said. “How can I be racist with someone? How can I be racist about anyone or anything in my life? How can I?”

Underwood calmly took the show to a break. When the show returned, Osbourne demanded from Underwood whether Morgan’s previous comments and behavior were racist.

Morgan later left the program on Tuesday after a fellow host confronted him about the comments. Morgan left the show later that day.

After Morgan left, Osbourne tweeted: “@piersmorgan, I’m with you. I’m in your side. People forget that you get paid for your opinion and that you are just speaking your truth. ”

When the conversation returned on “The Talk”, Osbourne repeatedly pressed Underwood on why Morgan’s actions were racist.

– I’ll ask again, Sheryl. I’ve been asking you during the break. I’m asking again, and don’t try to cry, because if someone should be crying, it should be me, ”said Osbourne. “Tell me where you heard it say. Educate me. Tell me when I’ve heard you say racist things and educate me. Tell me!”

Underwood then calmly explained that she was not directly accusing Osbourne of being racist, but that she thought Morgan was racist towards Meghan in her stance. The segment then cooled off when co-hosts Elaine Welteroth and Amanda Kloots joined the discussion.

Osbourne apologized for the switch on Twitter on Friday after the reaction.

“For anyone of color who I offended and / or for anyone who is confused or discouraged by what I said, I am really sorry,” she said. “I panicked, I felt taken aback, I became defensive and I allowed my fear and horror of being accused of being racist to take control.”

Morgan on Friday demanded that “The Talk” apologize to Osbourne for the meeting.

“Sharon was embarrassed and intimidated to apologize for defending me against colleagues who accused me of racism because I don’t believe in Meghan Markle’s bullshit,” Morgan tweeted. “This is where we arrived. I demand an apology from those attackers @TheTalkCBS for their shameful slander against ME. ”
