Two weeks after her influential pregnancy, she founded the popular Instagram account and blog The Hidden Path– was left unanswered during breakfast, his cause of death was revealed.
“A few days ago we learned from the state Medical Examiner’s Office that the official cause of death was a pulmonary embolism,” said her husband. Joseph Mitchell wrote in the family’s GoFundMe readings. “While it is difficult to understand how this could have happened, we know that all first aid and medical staff did everything they could to help, so we are sure it was just her time; the Lord was calling her home.”
The family also thanked people for their support during this difficult time. “The children and I are very grateful for the show of love and support following the sudden death of our beloved Emily and baby Joey,” says the page. “Words cannot describe how significant their words, gestures, expressions and encouragement have been to us.”

Emily, who had raised her four children at home, announced in November that she was pregnant with a baby she called Joey. Her last post on Instagram talked about the stigma surrounding different delivery methods, as she had already detailed her plans to have a cesarean section.
“However you want your baby to get here, know that YOUR EXPERIENCE is valid and valuable. YOU are no less a mother if you needed emergency medical intervention, had a planned C-section or an epidural,” she wrote. “You are not a ‘better’ mother if you had a home birth or an unmedicated vaginal birth. What if you raised your litter through adoption, surrogate or family mix? These are YOUR babies and YOU SIT- IF PROUD at the maternity table. “
