Conservative “The View” co-host Meghan McCain said on Wednesday that the video of last month’s Capitol rebellion, shown at former President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial, “literally took my breath away.”
“I started to cry again,” she said. “It’s like revisiting the trauma. I was so intense and deeply impacted by what happened on January 6 for a variety of reasons, and I think that all Americans are. ”
Trump, who was impeached on January 13 because of a single article inciting an insurrection, is the first president to be tried by the United States Senate after leaving office. On Tuesday, Democratic impeachment managers showed a 13-minute video amending Trump’s rhetoric about having the election stolen by Joe Biden and urging his supporters to fight with violent images of the riot.
Trump supporters said the process was illegitimate and insist that the former president never urged his followers to commit acts of violence.

McCain, daughter of the late Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., Said she was moved by the observation of Deputy Impeachment Manager Jamie Raskin that his daughter did not want to return to the Capitol after the January 6 events.
“I also don’t want to go back to Capitol now, and I was literally raised going to Capitol my whole life,” she said.
McCain added that she was particularly impressed by Trump’s rhetoric about Vice President Mike Pence at the riot on the day of the riot. Trump urged Pence to “go over” and reject presidential voters that Trump considered fraudulent, even though the vice president had no authority to do so. Pence, who was chairing the certification, had to be evacuated when Trump supporters broke into the building, and some of the rowdies could be tough calling for his hanging.

“Words have ramifications,” said McCain. “It’s like something out of a dystopian sci-fi movie.”
Trump’s absolution seems certain, with 44 of the 50 Republicans voting on Tuesday that the trial itself was unconstitutional. McCain always conflicts with her liberal co-hosts, but she agreed with them in asking Republicans to condemn Trump and prevent him from taking office.
McCain said Republicans are trying to strike a balance between not abandoning Trump entirely due to his support base, but he spoke harshly to former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley, who criticized Trump’s rhetoric about a stolen election, but said to the Democrats to “give the man one” and skip the impeachment.

McCain called Haley’s comments “the most disgusting language I have ever heard”.
“It is difficult for me to give President Trump a chance, when our vice president could have been killed because of the things he was saying,” she said. “I would love to see more Republicans show up and do the right thing ethically, but politics will come in between.”
