Capitol police officer Eugene Goodman, who was already famous for redirecting protesters during the January 6 attack on Capitol Hill, may also have saved Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT). Security footage first released on Wednesday during ex-President Trump’s impeachment trial in the Senate shows that Romney was unknowingly heading towards the protesters after the Senate chamber was evacuated. In the footage, Goodman is seen running down a Capitol hall before passing Romney, going in the opposite direction. When Goodman passed Romney, he gestured towards the senator, who immediately turned and ran in the other direction. After the January 6 riot, Goodman was promoted to deputy weapons sergeant in the Senate.
