Cam Newton won’t be surprised if Josh Allen wins MVP, roots for Bills QB

Cam Newton has many ties to the Buffalo Bills organization because many players and coaches were in Carolina when he was the Panthers quarterback from 2011 to 2019.

One person in particular that Newton mentioned on Thursday, before the Monday Night Football clash between the Bills and the New England Patriots, is the current coach of Bills quarterback Ken Dorsey.

Newton said he is aware of what Allen is doing because he is very well connected within the Bills organization. As far as the MV award is concerned, Allen currently has the third best 9/1 chance to win, behind only Patrick Mahomes of Kansas City and Aaron Rodgers of Green Bay. Newton thinks the caller of the Bills signal has a chance of win.

“I am a big fan of Josh and he is being coached by a person I know extremely well, Ken Dorsey. He was my quarterback coach the year I won the MVP, ”said Newton. “So I won’t be surprised if he wins this year.”

Allen has been compared to Newton since he was in Wyoming. Throughout the draft process, his great arm and mobility offered a logical connection. When Sean McDermott and Brandon Beane selected him in 7th place overall in 2018, these comparisons became even more prevalent.

In Newton’s MVP season in 2015 – when he led the Panthers to the Super Bowl – he had 4,473 total yards (3,837 past yards), 45 total touchdowns (35 past TDs), 10 interceptions and a passer rating of 99.4 .

Allen’s numbers are almost identical. He has 4,383 yards in total (4,000 passes), 39 touchdowns in total (30 TDs with passes), 9 interceptions and a 104.2 defender rating. Allen has two games left and can pass the Newton total in all categories. What can be even more impressive is that Allen (68.7%) is completing his passes almost 10 percentage points more than Newton (59.8%) in his MVP season.

Newton said he is a fan of Dorsey and the entire Bills technical team. His familiarity with McDermott and many of the players the Bills have signed since Carolina’s days, mostly in defense, has given the Patriots’ current QB a fundamental understanding of what’s going on behind the scenes in Buffalo, he said.

And Newton likes what he sees in Allen’s film.

“He is an extremely talented player with a big arm and the mobile skills he has: very physical, strong, evasive,” said Newton. “For him, this is a skill set that is the main thing at this time of year to be able to attack many defenses in several ways. I am always rooting, but obviously not in certain circumstances, but I wish him the best. “

Accounts can guarantee no. 2 seed this weekend if the Patriots beat, who were eliminated from the playoffs dispute last week, and the Packers beat the Packers and the Colts beat the Steelers. Buffalo will also remain in the no. 2 seed if they win the last two games.
